Lysterfield Primary School is working towards embedding sustainability across the school facilities, curriculum and community. Our goal is to provide as many opportunities as possible to allow staff, students and our community to take action to minimise waste, save energy and water, promote biodiversity and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
As a school, we have implemented a number of programs to increase our engagement with sustainability. Our programs are informed by our collaboration with Resource Smart Schools.
ResourceSmart Schools is a Victorian Government initiative that is helping our school benefit from embedding sustainability in everything we do.
We are aiming for improve in the following areas:
Energy (e.g. installing LED lights schoolwide)
Waste (e.g. Wrapper Free policy)
Water (e.g. water tanks that flush the Senior School toilets)
Biodiversity (e.g. planting our new native garden)
We have formed a staff and student sustainability team who lead initiatives throughout the school, and raise the profile of sustainability schoolwide. Additionally, this team is supported by our I Sea I Care program, where students engage in ocean conservation.
